We rarely review books at CancerNews.com. However, “Adventures in Cancer Land” by Betsy de Parry is such an extraordinary read it is worth discussing. Although the author’s personal struggle was with lymphoma, the lessons apply to anyone dealing with a life changing illness. Both cancer patients and their caregivers will appreciate the author’s candor. Physicians, nurses and medical trainees will gain insights into the sensitivities of patients and their families. Her experiences are personal to her, but the lessons she derives from them are universal. This is not merely one patients chronicle of an illness, it is an extremely well written, witty and at times funny account of her struggle to survive the diagnosis, treatment and life challenges of cancer. I would highly recommend this book to patients, oncologists and caregivers.
